Microprocessor
Microprocessor is a programmable device and the brain of the computer, which co-ordinate the computer system. Although it has competition from the companies such as AMD, VIA, Cyrix and a few others, Intel has consistently set the standard by which all processers are measured. The CPU type plays a vital role for the price of any computer the most important decision you shall have to make when building a computer is how much power you want to give it.
The Pentium processed had many new features, including two 8-bit caches and a Floating Point Unit (FPU) that operated as much as five times faster than that of the 486. It also featured a new super scalar architecture that could execute multiple instructions simultaneously. By 1992, Intel had discovered that it could not trademark a model number so it choose to use trademark name for its next Processor. Instead of the 80586, the newest Intel processer became the Pentium.
Microprocessor is commonly known as CPU. Although it is the small parts of the computer, it is the most expensive component. Intel is by far the leading manufacturer of the microprocessors used in PCs. All Intel processers up to the Pentium III were based on the architecture of the 8086 processors.
