 Operating System (OS)  

Operating System is an interface between computer hardware and application software. It's a program of suite of program that control the entire operation of computer such as recognizeing input from keyboard, sending output to the output device, controlling peripherals devices.

• Memory management.
• User interface.
• Backing storages.
• Running application.
• Input/Output management.

Classification of OS based on User Interface

Graphic User Interface:-

A GUI interface allows user to enter command by pointing and clicking at the objects that appears on the screen. Well designed GUI can free the user from learning complex command language.

eg. Windows, Apple Macintosh etc..

Character User Interface:-

In a character command driven system to communicate with the computer. The user has to instruct the computer in special command.
